Merry Christmas!

TOO FUNNY!

Go see what I did.

BTW- it's David (as a nerd), Jacob, Mary E, and Jonah!

Day Six...

...was actually Saturday. We had Larry's 20th high school reunion last night (yes, you read that number right) so I was so busy getting ready (ie, shopping) that I didn't get to take pictures.

I must say, after watching the work that's been done over the past week, I have a greater appreciation for the fact that God REALLY DOES give us individual talents- and mine will never be electrical, plumbing, and renovation work. YIKES. They have done things in that room this week that makes my mind boggled. And to see the transformation is also amazing!

Today he worked on the pantry cabinets and getting the surround for the fridge. We are biting the bullet and getting a cabinet-depth fridge. We hadn't planned on it, but we realized the walking space here needs to be as open as possible.

More work on Monday- and they are AHEAD of schedule! YAH!

Day Five...

Today we got CABINETS! Not all of them, but most! And they are coming back on Saturday to put in the rest- I'm so excited!!! They look GREAT!

We went with this company because they gave us a great deal on some higher-end cabinets that had been ordered for another customer but she didn't like them. I did! But today I got to really see them up-close and personal...I got to open the doors on them, and boy, are they cool inside! I've got pull-out drawers and lazy susans and SPACE. The island is a lot longer than I imagined it woud be. I also love the maple color, and the glaze that fills in the spaces on the doors.

I've attached some close-ups- come back tomorrow night to see them ALL in place!

Day Four...

Today they laid down the plywood for the floor; finished the electrical (David's room has LIGHT); and spackled the walls and ceiling. They are working on fixing the water line/door problem. Tomorrow they will primer coat the walls and ceiling and MAAYYBE start putting in cabinets!! FUN! I picked the wall/ceiling color today- Waverly Home Natural (VERY light taupe).

We are starting to feel the *squeeze* in our space, but we are hanging in there. Poor Buddy, our dog, has been so out-of-sorts that he's been living OUTSIDE. Day AND night. In the cold. I think he's so tired of us stepping around and over him that he'd rather not be in here.

Day Three...

We got drywall today. Sure makes the room look more complete.

Two small issues- no power in David's room and our pocket door will no longer close all the way into the wall because of the new water line for the fridge.

Did I just say "small"? Hhhmmm...may need to rethink that.

Day Two...

Today they finished tearing out the tile. The HVAC guys came and dealt with the rerouting of the A/C return. New can recess lights went in. And they continued rewiring, thank goodness- it was a REAL mess after the previous owners' haphazardly-done remodeling job.

They expect to finish the wiring tomorrow and put up drywall- awesome!

I leave you with a photo of the ORIGINAL flooring...circa 1964. Maybe I should send a piece to the Charleston Museum.

They came, they saw...

...they tore it up!

Wow- it's really exciting! Wow- it's really a mess! And it smells like 40 years of kitchen has been ripped up. Musty, damp, oooooolllllld...

They found LIVE wires behind the walls. They found floor-under-the-floor that had been "padded up" to make it even. They found that removing the tile is a two-day job. They found wires that seemed to come from nowhere and go to somewhere....

So far, so good.
