soul clutter...

my soul has been heavy lately. i'm sure yours has been too.

it is so so difficult to read the news and not just want to reach through the screen and do something. my soul cries out to the people of haiti and i hurt so much for them. i feel like anything i do right now is just not enough. not enough... it feels like 9/11 all over again. that feeling of deep helplessness and disbelief...

i try to take comfort in the knowledge that our Father is there. He is there when i can't be. He hears their cries and ours.

pray. give. pray some more.

here's one of my favorite psalms, which we have hanging in our hallway near our bedrooms...

"i lift up my eyes to the mountains-
where does my help come from?
my help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, He who watches over israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

the Lord watches over you-
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

the Lord will keep you from all harm-
He will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forvermore."

psalm 121~

My soul has been heavy, too. I know that the tragedy in Haiti has been a big factor, along with watching a couple of situations at church. I find it odd that as God fills your heart with love, He also opens it up to absorb the pain of others. That pain can be overwhelming sometimes, but it also makes the joy that comes from His Spirit to be that much more of a blessing. The promise that we can have joy even as we live in a world of pain and sorrow is kind of amazing to me.

On a side note, I am almost finished with Forgotten God, and it feels like I have had an ongoing conversation with you this week through noting your highlights and stars and notes in the margin:). It has been really hard not to engage with my own highlights and notes, but I have resisted (well, I wrote one little thing in pencil, but you can erase that:)). Thank you for loaning out your books and for being open and willing to share about the things that God is showing you. That in itself is such an encouragement to others. I thank God that He has blessed us with fellow travelers on the journey to encourage each other and lift each others' hearts. As my heart has been heavy lately, you have done that for me, even though we've had little direct communication:). So thanks!
